About
Originally from South Africa, I moved to New Zealand in 2003. I have been in aviation for almost 20 years and am currently also working as an onboard Customer Service Manager for a major International airline, continuously advocating for the mental health of flying cabin crew. I have a special interest in the prevention of suicide and the effects of depression and anxiety in the general population, cabin crew in their unique environment, and members of marginalized communities. My background in psychology also informs my work with general mental health challenges.
Counselling Practice
In my counselling practice I use an eclectic approach with a client-centred focus to help clients identify their preferred futures, or explore their concerns, challenges, thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. We work together, focusing on solutions, clarifying goals and strategies, eliciting the client’s existing strengths, and incorporating new learnings into everyday life. I mainly use a Solution-Focused Brief Therapy format, but also draws on aspects from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Mindfulness. Counselling sessions can be conducted online (preferred) or face-to-face, and in English and/or Afrikaans, for individuals or couples. The sessions offer the opportunity to have sensitive conversations with someone who is safe, non-judgmental, and empathetic.
